Please  read at least 10 minutes a day with your child. Students should also be learning the sight words. When you feel your child is ready to be tested on their current list, have them tell me or send me a message, and I will test them. Your child will bring home a leveled reader to keep at home until they read all stories to practice reading at home.  Once your child has read this book a few times, sign the reading log on the back of the yellow reading pocket and return the book to school.

A Homework Packet will come home on Monday. The packet will be due  Friday and will contain a writing prompt and a math page to complete. We are needing to start expanding the details in our stories and we hope this will help.

When reading with your child, please encourage them to first try all their reading powers before just telling them the words. The powers we have worked on are:

1. Pointer Power-point to the words as you read

2. Picture Power- use the picture to help decode

3. Snap Word Power- Look for snap words we know

4. Sound Power- look at the beginning sound to help see what makes sense

5. Persistence Power- trying other powers when one doesn't work

6. Reread Power- go back and read it again to check and make sure it makes sense

7. Book Talk Power- talk about the book by introducing it to someone

8. Pattern Power- use the pattern in the book to help you read
